FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE IRONY

DEFINITION

Irony is a figure of speech in which words are used in such a way that their intended

pregnant is different from the actual meaning of the words.

Information technology may also be a situation that ends up in quite a different manner than what is generally

predictable.

In simple words, it is a difference between appearance and reality.

Irony has meanings that extend beyond its use but equally a figure of spoken communication.

The term irony ever implies some sort of discrepancy or incongruity. In other forms

the discrepancy may be betwixt appearance and reality or between expectation and

fulfillment.

There are 3 kinds of irony: verbal, situational and dramatic.

Verbal IRONY

Fiveerbal irony involves what ane does not hateful or saying the reverse of what one

ways.

Fiveerbal Irony contains discrepancy is between what is said and what is meant.

For example, when in response to a foolish thought, we say, "What a slap-up idea!"

Or, after you take washed particularly well on an examination, your instructor brings

your test papers into the classroom proverb, "Here's some bad news for you: you all got

A's and B's!"

2. The student was given 'excellent' on getting null in the examination.

three. He was in such a harried state that he drove the entire fashion at 20 miles per hour.
